Virginia Mennonite Conference is seeking a part time bookkeeper to work 8 hours per week. Familiarity with the Mennonite Church, accounting practices and QuickBooks essential. Save the date for Virginia Mennonite Conference Assembly 2010! Mark your calendar now for June 24-26, 2010. Assembly will be held at NC State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. You won’t want to miss this event, featuring Stanley Hauerwas, Isaac Villegas, Jennifer Davis Sensenig, and others speaking on the theme of “Jesus: God’s Love Made Flesh.” Various activities for children, youth, and adults (delegates and non-delegates alike) are planned. VMC’s 175th anniversary will be commemorated. Plan now to attend and watch for more information. Registration will be available by April 10.

The spring lecture sponsored by the CrossRoads Heritage Center in Harrisonburg will feature the theme, “Decorative Arts of the Shenandoah Valley.” Scott Suter, associate professor of English and American Studies at Bridgewater (Va.) College, will present the lecture at Dayton Church of the Brethren. An offering will be received for the work of the CrossRoads Center. The lecture will lay the groundwork for an antique auction on April 16.

A memorial service for Vivian Beachy, an outstanding English teacher at Eastern Mennonite High School from 1955-95, will be held at EMHS at 3:30 pm Saturday, March 13. Opportunity for fellowship and the sharing of tributes in the EMHS Commons will follow the service. The high school's annual Soup and Arts event is from 5-7:30 pm on the same day. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Vivian M. Beachy Endowment, EMHS, 801 Parkwood Drive, Harrisonburg, VA 22802.

A free educational session for clergy, lay leaders, and visitation committees about ministering to persons with memory loss and their families will be 10-11:30 a.m. March 18 in Strite Auditorium, 1401 Virginia Ave. on the campus of VMRC. “Nurturing the Spirit” will identify ways of providing spiritual nurturing to those families and individuals who have been impacted by dementia, memory loss or Alzheimer’s diseases. Funding Sought for MCC Relief Kits for Haiti

The Hinton Mennonite Relief Center is seeking donations from churches and individuals in order to assemble a semi-truck full of MCC RELIEF KITS for Haiti. $40,000 is needed to provide the contents and transportation for 1,400 kits. Please consider making a donation to Hinton Mennonite Relief Center, P.O. Box 519, Dayton, VA 22821 to help make this large project possible. This relief kit project would take place in March after the March 1 to 5 meat canning at Hinton. Inquiries about collaborating on this project can be directed to Hinton Mennonite Relief Committee member Leon Rhodes at (540) 820-5443.

March is Intellectual and Developmental Disability Awareness Month. Pleasant View is trying to raise awareness and also offer our services to those who may need them. The "bulletin insert 2010" attachment is two sheets so that it can be photocopied front and back and then cut in half to be a single half sheet for inserting in the bulletins.

The Center for Justice & Peacebuilding and Ted & Company TheaterWorks will present “I’d Like to Buy an Enemy” – a hilarious, poignant, thought-provoking new show exploring peace and justice issues – on Monday, March 22, 7:30 p.m. in Lehman Auditorium on the EMU campus. The play stars Ted Swartz and Trent Wagler along with Pete Nelson. Tickets are available at the door only for $12/adults; $6/students. Call 540-574-4877 for more information.

Mark your calendars for March 13, when the PTF of EMHS will sponsor the annual Soup and Arts Fest! Gourmet Soups, provided by 20 local restaurants, will be featured in an “all you can eat” buffet from 5:00-7:30. This event will include an art gallery featuring artwork from students in grades k-12, a gift shop, local artisans demonstrations and live entertainment provided by students of EMS . All proceeds will benefit the Fine Arts at EMS . Tickets will be sold at the door: $8.00 for adults, $5.00 for children age 6-12, and free admission for children age 5 and under. On Sunday, March 28, 1:00 p.m., Northern Virginia Mennonite Church is hosting a Celebration of Missions with lunch and program by Virginia Mennonite Missions workers and staff. Everyone is invited, including families with young children. Come and hear from Skip & Carol Tobin, former workers in Thailand, an update about the earthquake relief work that VMM organized, and how workers are “powered by the Spirit” in their daily ministry. Community Mennonite Church and Hesston College present Common Threads: Songs and Stories of Suffering and Hope on Saturday, March 13 at 4 p.m. at Community Mennonite Church. John Sharp, storyteller,and Tony Brown, soloist, (both faculty at Hesston College) explore the common threads of suffering and hope in Anabaptist and African American histories through story and song. Free-will offering to cover expenses. Light refreshments follow the program.
